About the blogger

I’m Clare and I work as a researcher for an international development think tank. I started this blog to share my experiences and thoughts during my field research in Burundi and India a few years ago. My work is mainly about the political economy of development, looking in particular at government systems, state-society relations and the provision of public services. I like to bring together theory and knowledge from different disciplines to understand how and why change happens. Development shouldn’t be treated as a stand alone subject but understood through history, economics, psychology, sociology etc. My blog posts share some of my thoughts on what I’ve learnt through my own research and some reflections on new ideas emerging in the development field.

Comments welcome, all opinions my own.

      Hi Yani,
Unfortunately, I am no longer in Chennai so I can’t introduce you to any students there. If you’d like to ask me questions, you can email me using the email address above,
